taxmcp.io gives Claude source material for tax research: the IRC, Treasury Regs, IRS Publications, Revenue Rulings, state tax codes, and U.S. Tax Court opinions, with links you can inspect.
Why Claude
Claude handles long passages without losing the thread. Pull a full Treasury Regulation section and ask Claude to walk it, and it stays anchored to what's in front of it.
MCP was designed at Anthropic, and Claude treats connectors as a first-class citizen: clear tool-use UI, reliable retrieval, and easy authorization on both Claude.ai and the Desktop app.
Retrieved authority gives Claude text and citations to work from instead of relying on the context in the conversation.
Demo
For a partnership with hot assets, walk me through how ยง751(b) treats a current distribution.
Under §751(b)(1), a current distribution is recast as a deemed sale or exchange to the extent it shifts the partners' interests in unrealized receivables or substantially appreciated inventory (collectively, “hot assets”).
The mechanics are in Reg. §1.751-1(b): identify each partner's share of hot assets before and after, then treat the change as a taxable exchange between the partner and the partnership.

Yes. Set the connector up once in Claude.ai (Pro/Max) and it's available everywhere you're signed into the same account: web, Desktop, mobile.
Yes. Claude reads the descriptions on each taxmcp.io tool and decides when to call them. For tax questions it will reach for search-tax-law or lookup-section automatically; for non-tax questions it ignores the server entirely.
Claude can still make mistakes in analysis or explanation. For sections retrieved through taxmcp.io, the section numbers, regulation text, and ruling references come from indexed primary sources, so you can open the cited source and verify them.
No. taxmcp.io retrieves public tax authority and does not require tax returns, source documents, or personally identifiable client information. You can research an abstract or de-identified set of facts. Anything you type into Claude is still handled under your Anthropic plan, settings, and agreements, so follow your firm's approved data-handling policy.
TaxMCP does not persist MCP tool arguments, your Claude conversation, or Claude's generated response. It stores limited account and request metadata, and sends search text to OpenAI's API for embeddings and, when enabled, reranking under OpenAI's API data controls. See the Security and Privacy pages for the full data-handling description.
No single connector makes an entire firm workflow compliant. taxmcp.io helps retrieve verifiable primary authority and does not require client documents, but practitioners remain responsible for reviewing AI output, selecting an appropriate Claude plan, controlling what client information staff enter, and following applicable firm policies and professional obligations.
Yes. Any MCP-compatible client can connect to taxmcp.io. Cursor, Continue, and other tools that expose MCP server configuration will work the same way. Point them at the same MCP URL.
